  1. LUGGAGE: The band room will be open tomorrow after school until 4:30 if you wish to drop off your luggage here over night.  Be sure to properly label your luggage.  Put EVERYTHING you need for our parade performance in your uniform garment bag.  *Yes, put your hatbox, shoes & gloves inside the bag to avoid losing them.  It’s a good idea to pack liquid or meltable items inside a zip lock bag to keep anything from being ruined.
  2. BUS LOADING: All equipment needed for the parade, including uniforms will be loaded on Bus 1.  All luggage will be loaded on Bus 2 & 3.  Bus 1 will not be accessible until the day of the parade, so be sure to pack correctly.
  3. PARKING: Students who drive to school must park in their normal, assigned parks.  Chaperones must park & leave their cars in the gravel lot across from the band field.  *The actual gravel lot; not the old “gravel lot” that is now paved.
  4. WHERE DO I GO / WHAT DO I DO ON WEDNESDAY?
  • 4:00 am Report Time:  Chaperones & students come to the band room, claim a spot and wait for the buses to arrive.  Receive trip badges (to be worn at all times) & books from the front table.
  • 4:30 am Biscuits & Buses:  The Gadsden Airport Jack’s will be providing biscuits for everyone.  They should arrive around 4:30 am, which is around the time that our buses should show up.  Please limit to 1 biscuit (chicken or sausage) and bring your own drink with a resalable lid.
  • Loading:  As soon as the buses arrive we will begin loaded equipment and luggage.  Everyone is responsible for loading their own luggage.  We need to do this quickly in order to leave on time.  Do not leave anything at school.  Double/triple check that you have everything.

This is going to be a GREAT TRIP!!!  Have fun everyone!

Any student interested in auditioning for Drum Major should sign up in the band room as well as submit an application along with at least two letters of recommendation supporting your leadership capabilities.  One of these letters should be from an SHS faculty member (not a band staff member).

DRUM MAJOR PRELIMS:
Date: Tuesday, April 10th, 2018
Location: Bandroom
Time: 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Each candidate will conduct the same musical selection: JSU’s 1998 “Firebird”.  Scores, recordings and applications may be picked up at the band office.

In addition to conducting, the staff and judging panel will review all applications and letters of recommendation and interview each candidate.
The top candidates will then progress to the FINAL round.

DRUM MAJOR FINALS:
Date: Wednesday, April 11th, 2018
Location: Bandroom
Time: 3:15 – 4:30pm

We are looking for a Drum Major who will lead by example and exemplify the positive attitude, work ethic, and spirit of The PRIDE.  A Drum Major is a musician, teacher, administrator, communicator, leader, performer, and friend.  Drum majors auditions will culminate in candidates conducting The PRIDE in the final round.
Candidates may choose to conduct one the following traditional pieces: SHS Fight Song, Alma Mater or Amazing Grace, as well as one selection from the 2017 show, “Rockstar.”  The PRIDE will then vote on the finalists and the outcome of the vote will play a role in the Staff’s decision of the final result.

Good Luck & Go PRIDE GO!!
