Hello Wind Ensemble!

Please note that tomorrow’s State MPA schedule has been amended slightly. Please read the following information, schedule, and reminders below.

Friday, February 24th 2017 – State MPA Schedule
Wind Ensemble

Report time (dressed & seated): 4:00pm in the band room. (We will have a brief sound check session with our percussionists)

Loading / Departure: 4:30 – 4:45pm

Arrival / Line Up: 5:00pm

Warm Up: 5:30pm

Performance: 6:00pm

Reminders

Students should bring their concert attire to school Friday. We will change during 7th period. Students will have an opportunity to eat after school if they wish; but everyone must be seated in the band room for our sound check at 4pm.

Be sure to have all parts to your concert attire! Wash/ iron/ do whatever you need to tonight. Lay it out for the morning so that you don’t forget it!

Percussionists: be sure that everything we need for both the performance and sight-reading is on the trailer. Ashley Rennhack is our Equipment Manager for this concert.

Winds: Double / triple check that you have everything you need to play. Valve oil, extra reeds, grease, water, whatever…… it’s your job to make sure you have all of your materials.

HAVE FUN!!!!! J You have worked extremely hard this semester and we’re very proud of you. Enjoy your performance!

*Students to report at 5pm to the band room; dressed & ready to warm-up.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Calendar & State MPA Schedule: There are printable versions of each month’s calendar available online at: http://www.shs-band.com
Practice Records: Practice records are due Monday each week for all Symphonic Band & Wind Ensemble members. Symphonic Band records should be turned into Mrs. Palmer; Wind Ensemble records should be turned into Mr. Weaver.

Bed Sheet Sale: Our Bed Sheet Sale begins today and will span the next two weeks. All profits will cover student’s band fees. More information will be sent home today.

Spring Trip: Please remember that payments for our Spring Trip are due no later than Friday, March 3rd.

Drum Major Auditions: Drum Major auditions are right around the corner! Drum major camp will be from 7-7:30 a.m. on March 14,15, and 16. Prelims are March 21st from 3:15-5 and Finals are March 22nd from 3:15-5. Information packets for all interested in auditioning will be distributed tomorrow! All band students need to be present for Drum Major finals on March 22nd as the finalists will be conducting the live ensemble on Movement 4 of last year’s show, “Anchors Away”!

How to Register for JSU Honor Band

Step 1: Go to www.jsuhonorband.com

Step 2: Click on Student Registration

Step 3: Fill out application

Step 4: Pay $150 with either credit card, or choose the option to pay with check to Mr. Weaver or Ms. Palmer

Step 5: Mr. Weaver and Ms. Palmer will write recommendations, and each student will know if they have made it by April 3rd, 2017.

Registration closes on Friday, March 10th.

Hello Parents! Please read below for some very important upcoming events!

MPA
- Our last after school rehearsals are next MONDAY for Symphonic Band and next WEDNESDAY for Wind Ensemble. Our Pre-MPA concert is next Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Southside High School.
- Stay positive! MPA is now only two weeks away! We continue to encourage your kids to maintain a positive and productive work ethic, and they are overcoming goals every day!
- Symphonic Band will be performing on Thursday, February 23rd at 3:00 p.m., and Wind Ensemble with be performing on Friday, February 24th at 6:00 p.m. These performances will take place at Gadsden City High School. The students will be rewarded for their hard work with a pizza party the week after MPA, generously provided by the Pride Music Association!
Bedsheet Sale
- We will begin our bedsheet sale this coming Monday, February 13th, and it will span two weeks.
- These are the same, awesome sheets that have sold extremely well in the past. All proceeds will go toward paying your child’s band fees!
Spring Trip
- Remember that payments for the Spring Trip are due no later than FRIDAY, MARCH 3rd! The fee is $75. This includes three meals, a trip to the Tennessee Aquarium, an IMAX movie, a riverboat cruise, and a t-shirt!
- The trip will take place on Saturday, March 18th, and parents are invited to attend, but will also need to pay $75 for themselves! We are looking forward to a fun day!
