BAND CAMP ANNOUNCEMENTS

Members & Parents,
Below are some very important announcements regarding our schedule next week.  Please review this information carefully. 
 
Congratulations on a GREAT first day of camp.  We can march and play the entire opener!

PICTURE DAY:  “The PRIDE” will take our group and section pictures for the Southside Fall Media Guide on Monday, August 1st.  We will meet at Barney Hood Stadium at 7:00am to organize and distribute uniform parts.  Water will be provided by the PMA although students are encouraged to bring their water jugs.  Once our pictures are done, students are released until our 3pm rehearsal on campus.  


ECBOE INSERVICE – AUG.2:  “The PRIDE” has been asked to perform at this year’s ECBOE In-Service ceremony on Tuesday, August 2nd.  This is a tremendous honor for our program.  Teachers, administrators and school employee form our entire system will be in attendance at the CrossPoint Community Church of Gadsden.  We will perform our pregame show & the national anthem.  Our schedule is listed below:                       
                     Report Time:
     6:45 AM (Dressed and seated in the band room)
                     Depart:               
7:00 AM
                     
Arrive / Unload: 7:15 AM
                     Run Through:     7:45 AM
                     Performance:     
8:30 AM



1st GAME RE-SCHEDULE TO AUGUST 19: Our first game against Etowah that was originally scheduled for Thursday, August 18th.  IT HAS NOW BEEN MOVED TO FRIDAY AUGUST 19.  Thank you for your understanding and flexibility.  Our online calendar has been updated, and is available at: http://www.shs-band.com/calendar.html

SHOW SHIRTS: This is just a friendly reminder that all members are required to purchase both the red “PRIDE” shirt as well as the black “show” shirt.  (*Veteran members who already own a PRIDE shirt do not have to repurchase one)  Members who do not have the proper shirt will not be allowed to perform.  There are still a few members who have not ordered and or paid for their shirt.  This needs to be addressed as soon as possible.

MINI CAMP ANNOUNCEMENTS


Hello PRIDE! 
 
First, we want to say just how proud we are of the entire program for 2 awesome days of camp!  All of our members have been working very hard and have already come a long way.  Keep it up!
 
Below are some announcements and reminders for students & parents.  Please read them carefully. 
 
 
  1. WATER JUGS:  Several students are bringing smaller water bottles to rehearsal instead of the requested wide-mouthed jugs.  This dramatically slows down the time that our parent volunteers can refill them.  If at all possible, please ensure that all students have their own personal wide-mouthed jug. 
  2. All jugs MUST be taken home each day.  We are currently experiencing a small ant issue because of water jugs being left in cubbies.  
 
  1. FLIP FOLDERS:  This is a reminder that all Hornline members MUST have their own personal flip folder.  Members are required to have these folders by no later than Friday of this week. The band office does not have anymore.  Members who did not order a folder through the band office and do not have one should contact Gadsden Music immediately.         
 
  1. FRIDAY’S REHEARSAL: Okay parents and adults, we need your help!!  Have you ever been to an Alabama or Auburn or any other SEC football team home game?  If you have, you know that the atmosphere is electric during the pregame show.            
This year, The PRIDE will perform a full collegiate style pregame show but we need your help to get the crowd pumped up!
 
We want everyone who can, to come out to our Friday rehearsal at 6pm to learn the cheers that go with our show and help encourage our students. Come August, we’ll be counting on you to help establish this new tradition for our home crowd.

CAMP STARTS TOMORROW!!

Hello PRIDE! 
 
Camp starts tomorrow!  Please read the reminders below about camp.  Plan to come early & be ready to work.  This is going to be an amazing season. 

Also, just a reminder that we WILL be outside learning drill so doesn’t forget to wear the right shoes and bring your water jugs.

SUNSCREEN & WATER JUGS:  Bring your sunscreen, hat, sunglasses and a WIDE MOUTHED WATER JUG.  Put your name on everything you bring to school. 
   
REPORT TIMES:  Full rehearsal will BEGIN at 3pm in the band room.  Everyone should plan to arrive no later than 2:30 to check in his or her water and Gatorade.  Section Leaders will meet at 1pm in the band room.         

WATER & GATORADE: All members are asked to bring a case of bottled water and a large can of powdered Gatorade.  Members should write their name on the outside and arrive early to check it in.   

MUSIC & FLIP FOLDERS:  All Hornline members are required to have their own personal flip folder and a copy of all of the music at every marching band rehearsal.  Members who ordered a flip folder through the band office will receive theirs tomorrow at camp.  Our music may be downloaded and printed online at: http://www.shs-band.com/music--drill.html  

PENCILS:  ALL INSTRUMENTALISTS should have their own pencil at EVERY rehearsal!!!!!  

APPAREL:   Don’t forget to dress for the heat, but with modesty in mind.  Correct shoes must be worn at all times.  No open toed shoes are allowed.   

EAT BREAKFAST/LUNCH: Don’t forget to eat before camp :)
 
BRING YOUR BEST ATTITUDE:  Come ready to work hard and have a lot of fun!

  1. Websites:  Check out our newly updated websites!  Music has been added online under the tab for Members.  Also, check out our new Band Camp website at: www.southsidebandcamp.weebly.com

  1. Band Fees June & July Membership Fees are now due, along with all T Shirt orders.  If you have not done so, please pay your fees.  We are still in need of more funds before camp.  Most notably, we desperately need to purchase a new Vibraphone.  We cannot purchase one until more members have paid their summer fees.  

  1. Camp Newsletter: Please checkout our summer issue of “From the Podium” online on our new blog at: http://www.shs-band.com/blog

  1. The PRIDE Music Association July Meeting:  Please join us Monday, July 11th at 7pm for our monthly PMA Booster meeting.  This will also serve as an opportunity for students and parents to meet and welcome our new Assistant Band Director Ms. Palmer. 

  1. Amazon Associate Info:  In order to raise the $60,000 for new uniforms, the PMA has started two new capitol campaigns.  We are now official Amazon Associates.  This means that anytime someone makes a purchase on Amazon through our link, the PMA will receive 7-10% of the total purchase!!  Please help us spread the word!  The link is available on our websites.  We have also started a Go Fund Me link in order to take donations to the uniform fund.  Help out by donating or spreading the word.   Our page is online at: https://www.gofundme.com/southsideband

  1. Water & Gatorade:  We are asking that every member bring a case of bottled water and a case of powdered Gatorade mix to Mini Camp.  Students should write their names on their cases to receive credit.  The Gatorade will be used during camp and fall outdoor rehearsals.  The water will be taken with the band when we travel to games and competitions.  Please help The PRIDE by doing your part!

  1. Individual Practice: Camp is almost here!  Make sure you’re prepared.  All of our sheet music can be downloaded and printed online.  ALSO; Parents, please be sure that your child’s instrument and equipment is in good working order prior to camp. 

  1. Honda Work Day:  Our annual Honda Work Day will be held at the high school band room Saturday, July 16th from 8am to 1pm.  The PMA will receive $100 for every Honda employee who signs up to volunteer.  Please help us spread the word!!!
